Tonkinese are descended from Siamese crossed with Burmese. Tonkinese have nothing to do with the Tonkin region of Asia. Tonkinese were named after Tonkan, a fictional island in the musical, South Pacific, where half-breeds find acceptance. Tonkinese are also called Tonks. Tonkinese like to fetch like dogs.
